In sync

At last, the weather and nature are agreeing with the calendar.

Sunshine, showers, and a woodpigeon cooing outside my bedroom window.

It must be April!

Blink and you’ll miss it!

Even on cold, grey days you can catch a glimpse of gold

a view of a sunrise with streak of light showing through dark clouds

– if you get up early enough!

Priceless!

How much would you be prepared to pay for a little piece of spring?

I feel very Rich because my house hasn’t been flooded, damaged by strong winds or swallowed by a sink hole during the seemingly endless storms we’ve been having all winter.

But I was thoroughly fed up with the gloomy weather, so when I was out shopping I treated myself to a bunch of flowers to brighten up my home. When I arrived back I saw that my little garden had come up with the same idea. Ahhh!

Seeing the bright side

What’s good about a cold, wet May?

  • The only two warm, sunny days we’ve had so far this month seemed miraculous (instead of merely normal for this time of year).
  • Although there are bright yellow fields of oil seed rape all around my house, the damp weather has kept the pollen levels low so I haven’t needed to take antihistamines every day.
  • Sometimes we get a glimpse of a rainbow!

I wonder if there really is a crock of gold in that rape field?

April showers

When I am rich I would like to live somewhere that has the perfect climate – for me.

Warm enough so I won't need a coat.
Not so hot that long walks are uncomfortable.
No rain when I want to be outside.
Gentle showers to keep my garden watered.
Blue, blue skies.
Plenty of wind for kite-flying.
Not enough wind to mess up my hair.
Early morning mist to add a touch of magic.
No fog.
Snow deep enough for tobogganing and making snowmen, but only if combined with sunshine.
No snow or ice on roads.
Brief sparkles of frost to admire from indoors.
A few clouds to add interest to sunrises and sunsets.

Until then, I’ll adapt to the weather – as usual.

What kind of weather do you like best?
